Hi There
Have just been informed by travel agent that Airport Transfers to the Orhid Garden Hotel are not included in our package. Could anybody please let me know how much a taxi will be for the 2KLM ride. I have read on this forum that about $25 is the going rate for taxi/airport transfers. Seems very expensive for 2klms. Can you haggle the price or is it set, no matter how far you travel.
Also looking in hiring a taxi/driver for about 4 or 5 hours to show us around town/shopping centres/places of interest. How much would be the going rate for something like that, or is it better to get taxi into town, do your own looking around and get taxi back to hotel.
One last question, do my daughter in law and I have to wear head scarfs while out on the street/in hotel/at the airport. We do not wish to offend anybody and have already purchased 2 lovely scarfs. Is there any area that we MUST have our head scarfs on at all times.
Thanks so much
Kind regards Gizzy
Taxi from Airport to Orchid Garden Hotel
Hi Gizzy...
The airport taxis are a real rip off at Brunei airport. They rely on the fact that there is not much option for people in your position. Yes, they are likely to charge you $25 - even though the Orchid Garden is only 2 or 3 minutes away. I would contact the OG direct and ask about a transfer. The management (Australian guy I think is still the manager) there is very good. Make sure you have a roti with curry when you are there! Also they have the best coffee in Brunei (not much to beat!).
Orchid Garden have a transfer to town and Gadong Mall, I think, a few times a day. To see most, though, I would suggest your hire a driver/guide. Try Hertz first. Contact them direct and ask for a quote for this. Not many possibilities for this in Brunei - but have used Hertz in past and were good.
Westerners and non-muslims are not expected to wear head scarves. Main thing for touristst is not to wear skimpy clothing, but general casual clothing is fine. We lived in Brunei for 2 years and my wife never found herself in a situation where she had to have her head covered.
Let me know if you have any other queries. Regards,
Geoff
Taxi from Airport to Orchid Garden Hotel
Thank you very much Geoff for your reply, it is very helpful, and exactly what i wanted to know. Thanks again.
I do not know what a roti curry is but will definetly try one.
Our time is very short in Brunei so using the hotel shuttle to visit town sounds like the best option for us.
Thanks again
Gizzy
That%26#39;s fine Gizzy. Please post if you have any other questions before you leave. Perhaps just check up with the OG Hotel that the shuttle is still running.
Roti is an Indian round flat bread, served with a vegetable dahl or chicken curry for dipping. We used to love going to the OG for it - only around $6 or $7!
Enjoy Brunei; it is a small but interesting and unique country. Not all that well set up for lots of tourists, but that is perhaps a plus at times.
