Hi. I am staying at the empire hotel during my holiday and want to know if there are any cheap places to eat within walking distance of the hotel? I understand that the hotel has a few restaurants within the complex but was wondering if there was anywhere good to eat near the hotel so that i dont have to spend $30 on a taxi everytime i want to eat locally.
Also, does anyone know what is in the area of the hotel? Shops, Cafes, Nothing at all?
Can anyone help?
Local Places to eat near the Empire Hotel
Hi Waimatao,
The Empire Hotel is one of my favourite hotels to stay in when my family and I need a break locally.
Unfortunately, its located 10-15 mins drive away from the city centre and there%26#39;s no eateries or shops within walking distance. The 3 restaurants within the hotel itself are quite good, an italian restaurant (Spaghetini), the seafood restaurant next to the main Pool (The Pantai), international cuisine (The Atrium), and a Chinese restaurant (Li Gong), oh, and there%26#39;s also tea buffets at the Lobby during the afternoon. There%26#39;s a couple of high end shops and some ATMs (HSBC is one of em) within the hotel itself.
There%26#39;s also a movie theatre, a bowling alley and golfing, if you%26#39;re an avid golfer. Generally, The Empire Hotel %26amp; Country Club is a resort where you%26#39;d spend your time relaxing next to the pool, enjoying some beach activities, watching the sunset..
But if you%26#39;d rather explore for places to eat, and you love strolling through the shops, I would suggest staying at the Rizqun International Hotel (also a favourite Hotel to stay in, http://www.rizquninternational.com/) instead, which is smack in the middle of the shopping area and near the night food markets of Gadong. The room%26#39;s in par with the Empire though the Empire%26#39;s rooms are bigger, the pool%26#39;s also good, but also not as big as the Empire.
Hope this helps.. have a good stay here in Brunei!

Thanks for your advice
Sadly to say, there are not much to see or look around in the sounding area of the hotel, esp food.
To get the best highlight of local food in Brunei is to head down to the Gadong Night Market. Best time to head down is around 7-8pm~~where stalls starts packing up around 10.30pm~
