Money in Brunei and taxis

Hi

We are heading to brunei at the end of July and am wondering how easy is it to get Brunei money at the airport. We have been told to just get a taxi from the hotel to the Rizqun International and therefore we thought we would need cash.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer

Money in Brunei and taxis

There is a money changer, upstairs at the departure hall. But it is not operating at a 24hr basis. What time is ur flight arriving?

Money in Brunei and taxis

dinzie,

If you can find a place to change your currency to Singapore dollars before you come over here, that%26#39;ll be a better alternative. Singapore dollars are accepted here in Brunei (Brunei dollars are in par with Singapore dollars).

Thanks for the replies

We arrive 11.30am

Singapore dollars - yes easy to get some from NZ before we travel...I didn%26#39;t realise you could use Singapore dollars. Is that all over the place or just the taxis.

The NZ dollar is on par with the singapore dollar so that makes life really easy in working out costs

We are only there for 2 nights and heading off to Hong Kong after that. Still trying to work out waht we can fit into one full day there...any suggestions?

Hi Dinzie,

Singapore dollars are accepted everywhere here.

For 1 day, I%26#39;d suggest you

1. go to the Kianggeh River(pronounced %26#39;kee-ahng-gih%26#39;), where you can get a water taxi to bring you around the water village, you can just ask any of the boats berthed at the River side (usually around the cemented steps) if they are taxis and ask them to bring you guys around the Sultan%26#39;s palace (the Sultan%26#39;s Istana pronounced %26#39;ees-tah-nah%26#39;).

2. Visit the Royal Regalia - its a museum where they keep all the Royal ornated stuff used during any Royal ceremonies.

3. In the evening, near to the Rizqun International Hotel, there%26#39;s a night market, where they sell lots of different food stuff... ask the staff at the hotel for directions, its a short walk.

But, if you%26#39;d rather have a guided tour, why not check out www.bruneitourism.com ? there%26#39;s a lot of different tours offered and is more easier when you just have a day to spare.

Thanks Zury

I think we will take your suggestion up about the water taxi trip.

Do the water taxis go at sunset...is there a good place to get a sunset photo??

We arrive one day but think we will probably sleep on arrival but have the late afternoon evening to get about.

Then we have a full day the next day...maybe we will consider a guided tour or do the muesuem...would also like to see the monkeys...its so hard to fit in the best things in such a short time.

Do the taxis take you to the monkeys? how much roughly shoul we expect to pay?

Thanks for the money advise I would never have known otherwise....much appriciated.

Dinzie,

The water taxis will probably be able to take you around the mangroves where the probiscis monkeys are known to live and if you%26#39;re lucky, you%26#39;ll be able to catch a glimpse of the monkeys. The trip cost will vary, probably around $60, I would suggest that you get an agreement on the price first before you get onboard.

I%26#39;m not sure about the sunset trip, but there are plenty of places within walking distance, near the riverside that are potentially great places to catch a sunset shot. Bandar Seri Begawan town is not that big, so its not that easy to get lost.

There are also other operators that does a proboscis monkey tour as well as night tours with photo stops, two of them that I%26#39;ve checked out would be www.exploreborneo.com/tours_pcks_brunei.php or freme.com/bn_bwn_bruneitours_b2c_fit_en_bnd/…

There%26#39;s another reason why I would suggest a guided tour, taxis are hard to find here, unless you are at the taxi terminal (which is conveniently across the road at the Kianggeh river I might add), or get the taxi driver to pick you up at a set time or call them up.

Hope you%26#39;ll have a great trip here in Brunei!

Thanks so much for the information...we will get a tour to the monkeys. thanks Jury for you advise you have made our pending visit much more informed

Jury?????? I mean Zury sorry bout that

Hi Dinzie,

The taxi will be a very expensive option as the taxi here is very expensive. You might need to opt for other option.

As for the itinary, well, I can suggest this.

You arrived at 11am right.

12:00-16:00 - Rest in Hotel

17:00-18:45 - Go to one of the beaches for Sunset. You will be able to get a very good real sunset against the sea provided the weather is good.

19:00-21:00 - Head back to Gadong (Hotel) or Kiulap Area for dinner for a local delicasies, As suggested, Maybe the night market will do the job.

08:30-10:30 Head out to the city centre for a water taxi ride. (Around $50.00 for the Probicus Monkey)

10:30-11:30 Royal Regallia (Free Entrance)

12:00 (Lunch in one of the Restaurant in Kiulap)

13:30- 15:00 Both Museum Brunei

16:00 Visit to the tasek lama (Waterfall for hiking

and view of the city)

20:00 Drive around the city for the palace and night view. In July, there will be lighting to celebrate the Sultan Birthday.

NExt Day wil depends what time your flight is.

However, all this itinary will require you to have a personal transport and might not be found in one of the guided tours. If you need more information and assistant with the transportation, please do not hesitate to drop me an email.

Cheers
