Bandar Seri Begawan to Kota Kinabalu at night

My flight arrives in Bandar Seri Begawan at 6:00 PM on a Wednesday and I was wondering if there was any way possible to get to Kota Kinabalu that night because I have to be at my hostel by 7:00 AM on the next Thursday for a Mt. Kinabalu hike. I know that the ferry does not run that late. Any suggestions on how I should get to KK during the night? Do taxis go all the way to Kota Kinabalu, and if so how much would the fare be?

As you have probably discovered, Wednesday is one of the only nights that Royal Brunei does not have a midnight flight to KK. Unfortunately, they have cut back their evening flights to KK and also prevent other airlines flying this route (except a few daytime MAS flights). This makes it difficult!

The drive takes several hours, depending on time waits at border crossings - and there are several you have to go through backwards and forwards between Brunei, Sarawak and Sabah between BSB and KK.

Taxis are not really an option in Brunei. I would suggest you contact Hertz in Brunei and ask about a driver and car to do the route. It may not be possible at all, because I think some of the border posts have a closing time at night - so if you had a long wait at the first one at Kuala Lurah it may make the time scale a long one. Hertz should know the possibilites, and our experiences with them to Sarawak have been good.
