Brunei during Ramadan

We (two women) are hoping to travel to Brunei this September and have realised that is Ramadan and I understand the muslim people will be fasting from sunrise to sunset.

We would like to stay at the Empire and mainly relax around the resort. We%26#39;d like to be respectful to the people there and understand that our eating during the day may be offensive.

Can anyone advise please -

Is food served during the day or only evening?

Does the city close for Ramadan?

Should we reconsider travel for another time?

many thanks,

Brunei during Ramadan

Hi Puffin~

Nothing much really changes during the Ramadan, all tourist attractions will be open as usual.

Regarding food, certain muslim restaurants will be closed during the day, but u will still be able to find the usual food in the city.

In respect, jez try not to eat infront of muslim locals during the day.

Hope this Helps.%26gt;~

If u need any transport or guided tours during ur stay here in Brunei, ill be very much happy to help.

Have a nice day.

thanks for your reply. Will we need to have breakfast before sunrise or would room service be okay as we would eat in private? Please forgive me if this questions are offensive. I am non-Muslim and I%26#39;m not sure what to do. As a tourist, would we need to wear a head scarf if going to the city in public?

Hi Puffin

U need not have breakfast b4 sunrise, that applies to Muslims only.

Room service is fine, and i believe ';Atrium';, ';Li Gong'; Restaurants in Empire Hotel will be open too.

Also, u need not wear a head scarf anytime at all in Brunei. Its really not an extremely conservative country if u were to ask me. :)
