Best way to get to Miri from The Empire

HI, We are staying at the Empire, and would like to move onto Miri, and then down to Kuching by air. What is the best way to get to Miri, when staying at the Empire. Can we drive easily, catch a boat, from close to the Empire, or catch a bus close to the Empire. It sems a shame if we have to travel right into the town, when it appears we are well on the way to Miri, from the Empire.Thought of a tour from Miri which takes on the sights along the way, city tour of Miri, and then drop off at the Mrriott MIri.I hope someone can sort me out a bit, and supply me a sensible solution. Regards RSA

Best way to get to Miri from The Empire

Hi RSA,

Miri is about 2hours car ride from Brunei. Requires cross border clearance via Brunei-Malaysia immigration.

Apparently there isnt any boat option from Brunei to Miri. Also no bus service close to Empire. I had friends who travelled to miri using private car pool service that cost roughly bnd$25 per pax. Another option is to sign up for a Miri tour while you are in Brunei. For further info, do not hestitate to drop me a line.

Hope this helps~

Best way to get to Miri from The Empire

We found that the only viable way to do this trip is via a private car with a driver. We used Hertz in Brunei who arranged it all. Public transport between Brunei and Miri is very poor, since RBA air stopped its flights. The Empire is well on the way to Miri - and even if you went back into BSB (15 mins) there is no real option from there either (apart, I think, from an unwiedly and multiple change bus via Kuala Belait that takes many hours). It is really only an hour or so from the Empire to the border and then less than that to Miri.

Hi GWP, Thank you for taking the time and replying to my question on Tripadvisor. Would you have any idea as to the cost of the transfer from Empire to Miri.?Did you just email Hertz BSB or telephone them?

Once again many thanks, and looking forward to your reply. RSA

Hi, agree with the above regarding transport. Taxi drivers are also a good option. We live in Miri and get a taxi to the Brunei airport at times, it cost us around 300rm. This may be a cheaper option and taxi drivers are pretty good tour guides in general. Unfortunately apart from one pretty nice looking mosque the highlight will probably be seeing a couple of monkey%26#39;s. It is slightly more interesting to take the coastal road which goes past the shell camp and the garrison.
