We (extended family, 7 adults, 4 children) have booked to stay at The Empire Resort over the New Year. We will be staying for 3 days after a week in Kota Kinabalu. Our travel agent has just received notification that The Empire%26#39;s kids pool and kids club are closed until further notice. Also that children under the age of 18 are unable to swim in the main swimming pool. Does anyone know why these facilities are closed and when they will be open again? Also could someone please clarify whether children are normally allowed to swim in the main pool area, or is this just the case because of the closure of the kid%26#39;s pool at the moment. We really need to know if the pools will be open when we travel or we may need to revise our plans. Thanks in advance for any advice.
Empire Resort - Kids Pool, info needed please
Hi I live here. The pools are open again. There was an out break in all of borneo of hand foot and Mouth disease. Its really only a danger to little kids. There has been one death here and more in other neigbouring countries. As a precaution the govt here wisely shut things down a bit to contain the spread. This has worked well.
All children can use all the pools, regardless of age.The kids club is open again too.You will love the empire...take them to the theme park 5 mins down the road called jerudong park its 5 dollars B for as many rides as they like.Opens after 5.Please ask away for any other advice.
Dont eat in Spagatinis in the empire its gone OFF!!!!Do try escapade sushi(gadong) Japanese or Popular (indian) or Nadje(indian)senkurong area behind wha hos.The indian restarnts are basic no atmopsphere but cheap clean and VERY good. Also Thai rest called thai food, near jerudong park very very good.
Nice inside. The indian restarants are so cheap its obscene!!!I am an Aussie myself, but from Sydney.Ohhh bring beer and wine.2 wine each and 12 cans per adult. Its a dry state.
Empire Resort - Kids Pool, info needed please
Hi Beadnut,
Thanks for answering my post. It%26#39;s great to hear that the Empire%26#39;s pools are open again. Wasn%26#39;t sure how we were going to explain to the kids about us being able to swim and not them. We are really looking forward to the Empire so was glad to hear you think it%26#39;s great. All reports that I%26#39;ve read are good also.
We were definitely planning on visiting Jerudong. I had heard that a fair few rides have closed down though, is this the case? From your post I gather you still think its worth while visiting.
As far as restaurants go, I%26#39;m not sure if I understand about Spaghettinis. Is the food really that bad or is it just not the place to visit? We had hoped to eat out (as well as have some meals at the Resort) Are the other restaurants you mention (other than the Thai because you say that is near Jerudong) in the main part of BSB? How far is it from the Empire into town? Also I%26#39;ve read that it%26#39;s near impossible to get taxis (especially at night), is this the case? Just don%26#39;t want to go into town for a meal and then find ourselves stuck and unable to get back to the Resort.
One more quick question - do you think it%26#39;s worth a tour to visit Ulu Temberong? (not sure of spelling)
Thanks very much for the information and your offer to answer questions, it is much appreciated.
Yes its true about the park but still worth going, its obly 5 b dollars each, make sure you catch the laser light show in the garden part..wonderful and on at 8,9 and 10 but double check when you get to the park.I think you will be ok for transport. The empire has an ecellent shuttle bus.Spagatinis is a restarant in the empire, just dont go!Everything else there is fine.
There are a few diff ways you can do temburong.I recommend you do the one that has the canopy walk.....very high indeed!!!!!!Go to a supermarket the day before and get take away mee goreng etc etc and lots to drink..water.Its a whole day.Start early and you should be finished by 4 or 5.
Th empire is 15 to 20 mins from town.......everything is!!!The reatsrants in gadong are 13mins away.Escapde Sushi is fabbo and cheap, you may even need to book.
there is another indian restarant called Nadge in senkurong...flurescent lights,so no atmosphere, but the food is wonderful, very clean and very very local! Its behind spelt as it looks wha hose...get the empire bus to take you and pick you up if possible. The people there are very sweet.Jerudong pantai fish and fruit market 2 mins from the empire worth a visit,go at 5 for a wonder. Also the Empire is ooposite a big park(jungle walk area) called Bukit shababndar...but you need to get there 5 for a short walk,or early and have ebergy...very up and down and can be tiring.
I dont want to reveal who I am but if you give me your flight details I might contact you at the airport with my details so I can help out.Or I may be away..I dunno!?The password will be beadnut lol...and an aussie knowledge of kath and kim!
How is the beach at the hotel? Is it clean? Is the water clean? Is the swimming good? Is there shade? Thanks.
Yes yes and yes,but little shade available.Go to the webb site. Its a FAB FAB hotel.Just dont expect the staff to run around and be very ummm alert.Things tend to happen slowly here, even in the hotel. But thats not to say you cant get good service in the hotel, you can and mostly do...but it aint singapore!
Thanks again, Breadnut. Yup, I had checked out their web site which does show pretty pictures, but I never trust web site photos anymore, and all the hotel reviewers talk about the hotel pool, not the beach.
Thanks
The Empire pool (one of) was closed at Easter this year for routine maintenance. It has now re-opened.
There is no truth to the assertion that the pool is closed to under 18%26#39;s. There are however pools and playgrounds for children, all supervised by qualified staff.
I have stayed at the Empire some 11 times this year en route to and from Europe, Kota Kinabalu and Thailand.
It is a wonderful Resort sure to please even the most fastidious clients. It is the epitome of luxury. Services are very efficient and friendly. Seafood galore and it%26#39;s imported from Perth!
I%26#39;%26#39;be there again with family from 22 December to 6th January 2007.

The resort has now has new management and most of thre great staff have no left to greener pastures.
Mr. Keiler the new GM is ex Inter Continental, Mumbai. The standard of service has plummeted and quality of food and standard of hosuekeeping has dropped considerably.
I%26#39;ll return one day, when keiler leaves
