Hi Jordan,
I take it that you are on a construction or oil project in Brunei.I was there from 1965 to 1971
later for 3 weeks in 2001 and stayed last year at the empire Hotel where I was involved as an Architect. The Brunei Dollar is at par with the Australian Dollar which buys around $.80 US at the
moment. The average standard of living is pretty high for an Asian country, B$30,000 per year. Actually one of the highest. There are modern supermarkets and shopping centres there.
You can rent an apartment or a bungalow for around
$1500-$ 2000 a month around town%26#39; Have to check around. You may be able to share with some fellow
workers for 6 months. You are aware that Brunei is a muslim
country and is totally DRY.You can drink in your own privacy and getting it from some hotels or purchasing 2 litres per person flying in, like Saudi Arabia.
You would be sociallising mostly with expatriots
like yourself; its great if you are into sports where you can join the locals in a game of soccer etc.
Not advisable to socialise with the local girls.
Brunei is a duty free country
Hope this is of some help
Regards David
