hi,
I have a 3 night 4 day stopover in Brunei with my 8 year old daughter in july on our way home from UK to Australia. I want her to see some of the culture and the different way of life as well as maybe some monkeys or orangutans etc. We are also interested in the Jerudong theme park. Can anyone clue me in on good places to stay and activities to do. We are quite adventurous but obviously safety is still important with a child. I want it to be a great sensory experience for her.

hi,
I would suggest the following things to do:
1) visit the Kampong Ayer. It%26#39;s a mere half day trip
2) stay at the Empire Hotel, if you can afford it (suggested for honeymoon couple). The hotel is near to the Jerudong Theme Park but is rather far from the capital.
3)visit the Ulu Temburong National Park (Not recommended for children below 12). Tours can be arranged. Exhilarating!
4)visit the two mosques : Omar Ali Saifudin Mosque and Jame Asr Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque.
5)if you are free, the Royal Regalia and the Brunei Museum is worth a visit, but the children would be bored.
6)if you are in Brunei in the 23rd February or 15th July, you would be lucky to witness the celebration in the city centre. July 15th is more interesting. There will be neons all over the capital.
23rd Feb - National Day
15th Jul - His Majesty%26#39;s Birthday

Hi..
you could start of going to ulu temburong for a day return if you want to see some monkeys you could spot some prosbiscis monkey on the way to temburong. you could also experience some great views from the canopy bridge.
Culture of Brunei is very unique in its way. You could take a taxiride to the water village, and spend the rest of your evenings at Jerudong theme park which are open on wednesday to friday between 5pm to 12am (For Rides). You could make queries on the local tour operator, Freme and sunshine tour travel.
Brunei has many accommodation based from budget to 6 star rating depending on location. But, my suggestion is The Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong.
Crime rate in Brunei is very minimal but we do advise you to take extra precaution whenever you travel. Good Luck and Enjoy your visit to Brunei darussalam.
Hi I am an aussie living in Brunei.
Temburong should be fine if your 8 year old can handle the humidity and steps and steps...I would stay at the Empir its FAB!!!!!Jerudong park is a must for her,and the horse riding place will be open by then too..5 mins from empire. They have a shuttle bus to take you around where ever. This is a very safe place. The usual still aplies, zip your bag up and done leave your mobile lying around...even then I have hear of very very few thefts. The locals here are SO NICE.Its the best asset of Brunei. If you stay at the empire go doawn to Jerudong pantai markets, fresh local fruit and veges, smolked fish and fresh fish of EVERY variety.Go at 5.
If i am around in July(have to check hols here)I could meet up with you..miss australians! Please feel free to ask any other questions.
How about Ulu Temburong National Park with a 4 year old? We live in a large city and therefore do a lot of walking. Our girl can walk all day in town, and she likes the woods. I%26#39;m looking on the web at www.exploreborneo.com and they talk about a 2 hour walk. Is up a lot of steps or steep hills or something, or do you think she could do it?
Also, is Belalong National Park the same thing? If they are different places, is one better than the other? Are there any others?
We will later be staying in Kota Kinabalu and might visit Kinabalu Park. Does anyone think we need to do both, or do they recommend any over the other?
We are looking for day trips only, no overnighters. Thanks.
No way can your 4 year old manage temburong!I think from memory there is 1200 steps.....up.Dont forget its as humid as anything!
1200 steps. OK, that%26#39;s a good cold hard fact. You%26#39;re right, Breadnut, not a good idea for our child. Thanks.
